The Girl in 6E - Alessandra Torre

Title - The Girl in 6E
Author - Alessandra Torre

I screw men for money. Not literally, think phone sex operator with a 15 megapixel web cam thrown in. They tell me their deepest, darkest fantasies while paying me $6.99 a minute.

What would possess me to engage in such a business? Throw in a tortured past, 24/7 murderous thoughts, and a desire to keep the innocent people of my small town safe.

I was contained, out of the way, sexcamming my way to utter obscurity until HE came along. A twisted client armed with a target's name. Annie. And in that name, everything changed.

Wow. This wasn't what I expected, it was a million times more.

This story starts one way and becomes a snowball of emotions and questions. The moment you realise you have solved a little bit of the puzzle you feel proud and excited.

Jeremy was intriguing; I loved that he was the UPS guy, just a normal guy who anyone could meet.

The second half of this book is so fast paced, it leaves you pushing on and needing to read more.. I whispered "please" in my head a few times, wanting it to end well.

It is all described well and I didn't feel that their were any real loose ends to worry about.

I also loved the I.T guy, he seemed pretty sweet and I liked the relationship there.

There isn't another book like this, it's so original... a lovely breath of fresh air.

The Tied Man - Tabitha McGowan

Title - The Tied Man
Author - Tabitha McGowan

Lilith Bresson, an independent, successful young artist, is forced to travel from her home in Spain to the wild borderlands of northern England, to repay her feckless father’s latest debt by painting a portrait of the enigmatic Lady Blaine Albermarle.

On her first night at Albermarle Hall she meets Finn Strachan, Blaine’s ‘companion’, a cultured and hauntingly beautiful young man who seems to have it all. But Lilith has an artist’s eye, and a gift for seeing what lies beneath the skin. She soon discovers that Blaine is more gaoler than lover, and if the price is right, depravity has no limits.

As the weeks pass, Lilith finds that she too is drawn into the malign web that her patron has spun, yet against the odds she forges a strong friendship with the damaged, dysfunctional Finn. In a dark, modern twist to an age-old story, Lilith Bresson proves that sometimes it’s the princess who needs to become the rescuer.

Please note that this story-line contains depictions of drug abuse, violence and non-consensual sexual activity.

Not what I was expecting really, after reading Captured in the Dark and Seduced in the Dark I wanted something similar, this... wasn't it... it was the perfect retreat away from it.

This should have been dark and mournful but McGowan writes in such a way inappropriate laughter is expected. Finn is written perfectly and he has a way of making even awkward jokes funny.

Blaine... I wish I knew more about her, I wonder what made her so soulless, but I guess monsters are sometimes just there.

A stand out character was Nat, I really liked him and I wouldn't mind reading his story.

I love character driven stories and that's what this is.

Lilith is hilarious, on the same par as Nora, Olivia and other fantastic leading ladies.

I want book two! Like now. Pwease.

No One's Angel - Kelly Walker

Title - No One's Angel
Author - Kelly Walker

Tess used to spend more hours than she’d care to admit playing her favorite computer game, using the nickname Angel. She could pretend her life was different, and she could pretend Arion was just a friend. But a girl needs more to keep her warm at night than pixels and she traded her virtual heaven for a real life hell. Now she’s on the run from a past she won’t talk about, and the only place she has to go is the doorstep of the friend she’s never actually met.

When Angel disappeared from their nightly games, it nearly destroyed Arion. He threw himself into work and women, but he can’t help knowing the one night stands will never compare to the angel who haunts his dreams. At first, when she shows up soaking wet and scared-shitless on his doorstep, he thinks his prayers have been answered.

But the more Arion tries to keep Angel close, the more her fear drives her away. If they are ever going to have a chance for a future, they’ll first have to deal with the past that hasn’t forgotten her any more than she’s forgotten it, and Arion will have to learn how to let her go.

No One's Angel is a New Adult(NA) Contemporary Romance about a girl learning to fight back, and a boy learning how to let go. It is recommended for mature audiences only due to language and sexual content. (HEA ending and cliffhanger free. Paperback Version has approximately 340 pages.)

Angel is mine

This follows the story of Tess, a girl who used to like simple things, working at a cafe, spending time with her mum and with Arion, her online beau that she spent every minute thinking about. The problem? He lives thousands of miles away. The even bigger problem? She leaves him for a year and then turns up on his door step.

Tess has secrets as to why she is fleeing to Arion, a man she has never met and hasn't seen for over a year. She is hiding, hiding from the reason she left Arion to begin with.

I felt a deep connection with this story. I love e romances and this was the closest one to how they actually are. Except the randomly showing up part.

Arion was a lovely laid character and Angel was his missing piece. This is a sweet contemporary romance and yet it has surprises, abuse, secrets, sadness and beautiful quotes.

If you like mixed POV romances with twists and an intriguing plot then pick this up, it is a bit long winded but it is now on my favourites list.

Is This All There Is? - Patricia Mann

Title - Is This All There Is?
Author - Patricia Mann

Beth Thomas has the perfect life. At thirty-five, she’s married to her college sweetheart, has two adorable kids, and teaches part time at the local university. But when a friend persuades Beth to go dancing on a rare night out, a chance meeting with twenty one year old Dave, one of her former students, changes the course of her life. Loud music, too much to drink, and the thrill of feeling young again lead to an unforgettable kiss that was never supposed to happen. As she tries to put the memory behind her, Dave’s pursuit leaves Beth torn between her loyalty to one man and her lust for another.

You don't know what you have until it almost slips through your fingers

That was what I thought when I finished this. It was honest and heartfelt. Beth is like many married women, stuck, comfortable, unloved and uncared for.
But Beth is also not appreciative of the man willing to rub her back, look after her kids and be what she needs.

Dave - He played Beth and I still think he just wanted to 'Fuck the hot professor' and I wasn't concerned about his future.

Rick - He forgot that he loved and he forgot that someone else would love her if he didn't. He was actually my favorite character.

Jill - strange woman, obviously exhibitionist fetishes.

This was a great story about a lost woman, a busy husband and a selfish yet sweet young lover. It was a realistic outcome and an interesting journey. The two boys were beautifully written.

Nice work, Patricia. I loved Beth and Ricks relationship and I would love a novella about them.

The Redemption of Callie and Kayden (The Coincidence #2) - Jessica Sorenen

Title - The Redemption of Callie and Kayden
Author -  Jessica Sorenen

The dark secret Kayden has kept hidden for years is out. Worse, he's facing charges for battery. The only way he stands a chance against the charges is if Callie speaks up, something he'll never ask her to do.

Callie knows Kayden is going back to his dark place and desperately wants to save him. But saving him means admitting her secrets aloud. Callie and Kayden are stronger than they think, especially when they're together. Together they move forward, face their demons, and finally start to heal from their traumatic pasts.

My review here is short because I honestly don't know how else to describe it.

I'm a bit annoyed. I loved the first book, absolutely loved it.

This one... I was bored.

The only part that we learnt anything new was the end.

It was pointless.

Callie was a bit more annoying in this book, unrealistic and unremarkable.

I'm sorry Jess but I was a little disappointed.

1,135,789. That’s how many subscribers sixteen-year-old West Ryder has on his web vlog series. But he only has eyes for one of them.

As one of the internet’s most prestigious video bloggers, West talks about high school relationships under the name “Sam Green.” As far as he knows, no one from school, not even his best friend, Cat, has seen his videos. But the highlight of the whole thing is Harper Knight, who comments every day at exactly 2:02 in the afternoon. He doesn’t know anything about her aside from the occasional deep philosophical messaging on why pizza tastes so delicious, but as stupid as it sounds, he might be falling for her. So when they finally agree to meet in real life, West’s hope for romance seems more and more in reach. But that all changes as soon as he arrives at their meeting spot and sees Cat walking toward him, wearing the same “I <3 Sam Green” T-shirt Harper promised she'd have on.

To his alarm, West realizes he is falling in love with the best friend who has always been a sister to him.

I loved this. Male POV ftw.

It was an easy read, a few sad times but mostly happy and cute ones. This reminded me two relationships I've had in my life regarding male best friends, and I do think that a male best friend often gets you better than a female one, and this showcased that for me.

I liked West, although I didn't really like his name so I changed to to Wes when reading and quite honestly he seems like the YA version of a particular Tiffany Reisz character. He is very honest with his emotions in the sense that we can feel his sadness over his mother and his confusion over Cat. I felt that maybe for a teenage boy he was perhaps a little too open to himself regarding some emotions but I wish guys were like West so I won't complain.

Cat is an awesome chick, she starts off a little in the background and her personality is somewhat dumbed down but as time goes by and you witness her try and show West what he really feels you love her not so subtle ways and the fact that 'I need you' makes her rush to his side no matter what. I would love a book from her pov.

One thing I wish though, that Harper stuck around a little longer, maybe start the book at the first comment by Harper and watch that relationship form because the e romance part was over fairly fast and I am a sucker for it.

This is a great example of what a YA book should be like!

* Easy to read
* Just enough drama to keep you anxious
* well developed characters
* fun and inviting writing style

I also love that the author is male because that is so rare to find a male YA writer and I respect that fully.

Promise You Won't Tell? - John Locke

Title - Promise You Won't Tell?
Author - John Lock

“I think something might have happened to me Saturday night. Something bad.”

Private Investigator Dani Ripper’s client list is nuttier than the Looney Tunes conga line, but she diligently solves one crazy case after another, waiting for a game-changer.

Enter Riley Freeman, 17-year-old honor student.

Saturday afternoon Riley quietly placed a little strawberry sticker on her private area and pretended it was a tattoo. She didn’t tell anyone about it. That night she went to a slumber party that featured drinking and boys. Riley fell asleep, woke up the next day with no reason to think anything happened…

…Until Monday, at school, when a classmate called her Strawberry.

Coincidence or crime? Dani agrees to investigate. And the roller coaster ride begins.

Very intelligent and interesting freebie.

I really enjoyed this, it was witty and smart.

Dani Ripper is a hilarious character and brought a great humour to what could have been a very suspenseful thriller.

The story starts slow but the amusing dialogue keeps you entertained; the work with some of the other clients at the start had me in absolute stitches.

When the drama kicked in I was hooked, Riley is a very well developed character; she is the victim of a potential sexual assault. She starts the story rather shy and somewhat bashful and ends it more confident which I enjoyed watching; she is a very intelligent character and somewhat kick arse.

I had some great shockers in this book too and it makes me want to read the other John Locke as Dani Ripper book; Call Me.

I am curious about Dani's past as it is made clear that she is a a high profile victim of some sort and I look forward to learning more about it through the other books written by this character.

Chapter 41 made me laugh out loud.

I look forward to more from John Locke no wonder he has so many best sellers.

I read all nearly 400 pages in 10 hours, I literally couldn't stop! And and and a book two? Yes please!

Okay so this has so many twists and turns that you don't see coming, my mouth dropped like multiple times.

This isn't gory sick like a Kimberly A. Bettes type thriller it wasn't pure gore; it was more 'Oh shit' and 'Oh my god!'

It starts off slow and I hated Sheila at the start, she was dumb for a professor and she had made such stupid choices but as the story carried on it became more of a journey with her and I really wanted a HEA for her.

Ethan Wolfe. Wow. An epic character. Sad, fun, sociopathic, interesting,... He was strangely captivating. I felt for him, bad things, good things and almost sadness at times. He is a brilliant 'villain' and I would love to see him in film.

The relationship between Shelia and Ethan reminded me of the movie Taking Lives (fantastic movie btw)

This is a mind fuck for sure, people who like big surprises with little clues where you think 'Oh my god, I didn't see it before, its so clear'

Try this book, try this author. If you like a bit of a mind fuck with a little less gore and an edge of humor then you'll love this!!

Five creepy stars!!

The Nature of Cruelty - L.H Cosway

Title - The Nature of Cruelty
Author - L. H. Cosway

A standalone contemporary romance novel about love, hate, cruelty and forgiveness.

Her name is Lana. She wasn’t dealt the easiest cards in life. She wasn’t dealt the hardest. She has an illness, but she doesn’t let it rule her. The first time she laid eyes on her best friend’s twin brother she fell in love at first sight. It didn’t last very long. He was a hateful boy who made her miserable. The happiest day of her life was when he moved away to London six years ago.

His name is Robert. He breaks the ones who love him. He’s always liked to play games with Lana, see how far he could push her. He once thrived on her pain, but no more. Now she’s coming to London to live with his sister for the summer and this time he plans on being her friend instead of her tormentor. But Lana is scarred by his past bullying. She doesn’t trust him, nor does she have any reason to.

When the two find themselves living under the same roof, they call a truce. This summer will change both of their lives, as they put their history aside and learn one another from scratch.

When fear takes over, we use cruelty as a mask. Robert and Lana’s story will see their masks slip away as the love they felt on the inside shows its true face.

"Stripped to the waist,
We fall into the river.
Cover your eyes,
So you don't know the secret,
I've been trying to hide."

This was a nice read, not what I expected. I really enjoyed the interlude sections and I felt like I could easily relate to Lana. The start I was sure this would be a favorite and it nearly was.

The thing is, you never hate Robert, I wanted him to be a dick to Lana so I could feel conflicted; although I didn't trust him (he did bully her for years after all), I didn't feel like he was that bad. That being said I felt Lana trusted too easy, after years of bullying a few weeks and she is falling for him? Not sure I could that quick.

I did like this, I couldn't stop reading, it felt like it was not very dramatic. It's a great read with some really interesting quotes and interesting information on Greek mythology. I recommend it but I just needed more details on the past of Rob and Lana.
